3-Day Private Tour Toubacouta & Saloum Delta (Senegal from gambia)
Mangroves, biodiversity, islands, pirogue cruising and local life in the delta
Discover the peaceful beauty of Senegal’s Saloum Delta on a relaxed three-day private journey from The Gambia, surrounded by mangroves, islands, birdlife and traditional fishing communities.
Day 1 – The Gambia → Toubacouta
We leave The Gambia and travel towards Toubacouta in the heart of the Saloum Delta. Along the way we enjoy the Senegalese landscape and, where possible, make interesting stops at villages, markets or other places along the route.
After arrival in Toubacouta there is time to get to know the surroundings and enjoy the atmosphere of the delta. Overnight in Toubacouta.
Day 2 – Saloum Delta by pirogue
Today is the heart of the journey, as we explore the Saloum Delta by traditional pirogue through mangroves, narrow bolongs and peaceful waterways.
The Saloum Delta has remarkable biodiversity. Mangrove forests, saltwater and freshwater areas, oyster banks and islands form a rich habitat for many bird species, fish and other wildlife.
Along the way we visit small islands and local communities such as Sipo Island and see how families depend on fishing, oysters and the natural environment. The protected Keur Bamboung area may also form part of the day, depending on route and conditions.
At the end of the afternoon we return to Toubacouta for the second night.
Day 3 – Missirah & return to The Gambia
After breakfast we visit the Missirah area, a lively fishing community on the edge of the delta. Here we experience local fishing life and visit the impressive large baobab for which the area is known.
We then return towards The Gambia at a relaxed pace, with room for another local stop on the way.
