3-Day Gambia to Cap Skirring – Casamance Tour

Discover Eloubaline, Diola culture, mangroves, traditional villages and the green south of Senegal

Travel from The Gambia into the lush green region of Casamance and discover a different side of Senegal, with Diola culture, traditional villages, mangroves, rice fields and the beaches of Cap Skirring.

Day 1 – The Gambia, Oussouye, Edioungou & Cap Skirring

We leave The Gambia in the morning and cross the border into Senegal. Through green Casamance we travel towards Oussouye, an important centre of Diola culture. Depending on route and time, a short stop in Ziguinchor may be possible.

In and around Oussouye we discover traditional life in Casamance. When locally possible, there may also be an opportunity to learn about the traditional kingship of Oussouye.

We then visit Edioungou, known for its traditional women potters, where you can see pottery still being made by hand using techniques passed down through generations.

We also visit a local cashew producer or processing location and see how cashew nuts are harvested and processed. We then continue through rice fields, palm groves and villages to Cap Skirring for the night.

Day 2 – Eloubaline Island, mangroves, rice fields & Mlomp

One of the true highlights of the journey is Eloubaline Island, reached by traditional pirogue through peaceful bolongs and mangroves.

Eloubaline is known for traditional Diola rice cultivation and its remarkable system of dykes, channels and water management. This protects rice fields from salt water and makes use of rainwater. A village walk offers an insight into everyday life, agriculture and traditions in this island community.

After the boat trip we visit the Mlomp area, known for traditional Diola architecture, impressive trees and local village life. We then return to Cap Skirring, with time to enjoy the surroundings and beach.

Day 3 – Cap Skirring, fishing life & return to The Gambia

After breakfast we discover Cap Skirring and the surrounding coast. We visit local fishing communities, see colourful pirogues and experience everyday life along the Atlantic coast.

There is time to enjoy Cap Skirring’s famous beaches before starting the return journey through Casamance to The Gambia. Depending on time, route and local conditions, extra stops may be made at villages, rice fields or viewpoints.

SEE WHAT YOU WANT!

If you want to make an excursion in The Gambia, I can recommend the following.

Tour guide Aladin, from River Gambia Tours is the best thing that can happen to you in The Gambia. I dare say that, because I travel a lot and therefore have a lot of comparison material.

Why at Alladin?

– He speaks good English
– He quickly understands where your needs lie
– He has humor and is always cheerful
– He’s reliable
– In consultation with him, and after hearing his advice, you can put together your trip yourself (“cherry picking”)
– He makes a competitive offer after you have made your choices, without any surprises or extra costs afterwards
– In addition to Alladin, you also travel on your excursion with a good driver in a reliable car
– You decide for each part of the trip how long / short you want to stay with each part. You do not have to adapt to a large composite group as with the other providers, you are completely flexible
– Alladin keeps any overly obtrusive providers of stuff away from you kindly but urgently, because his sense of responsibility towards his customers is great
– You can choose from all the sights in The Gambia, such as (appointment of all excursions), and also spread this over several days if the wish list becomes too long.

An additional advantage to do your excursion at Alladin is that the money you pay goes to the local population instead of a large travel company.

Lots of fun!
