Gambia's Hidden Paradise

Escape the hustle and bustle and discover Jinack Island, a pristine island located near the border with Senegal. Wide beaches, peaceful villages, and a warm welcome make this a unique experience. The island can be reached by boat, or even by motorbike at low tide. Along the way, you’ll pass oyster beds, mangroves, and fishermen at work.

Once on the island, it's pure bliss: stroll along the quiet beach, taste local dishes, or simply take shelter in the shade under a palm tree. For the curious traveler, there is always something more to discover, like the small fields where an exceptionally unique crop is grown. Beloved by some locals and curious visitors alike.

Jinack – an island with character for those who love peace, nature, and a touch of mystery.

An adventurous journey full of nature, culture, and tranquility on the border of Gambia and Senegal.

This varied day tour combines the best of southwest Gambia. We visit the Reptile Farm, explore the border village of Kartong, and admire the unique Mosque on the beach, also known as the Sand Mosque. During a visit to the turtle reserve, we learn about the protection of sea turtles. As a highlight, we then take a traditional boat to the peaceful Pelican Island on the border of Gambia and Senegal – a paradise for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and those seeking peace and quiet.

A special, relaxing journey through Gambia’s nature.

An interesting day out for nature lovers

Departure by car to Lamin, where there is an impressive large tree with texts from visitors from all over the world, also called the Internet three. Learn about the process of processing the oysters and shells that are spread out here. The oysters grow on the roots of the mangrove. Women harvest the oysters in their small canoes. Then we take a small boat tour through the beautiful mangrove.

Then we arrive in Daranka, where there is the largest Silk Cotton or Elephant Tree in Gambia, so big that you can even climb into it. The tree is still used for traditional rituals today. A special piece of Gambia's nature. Take a photo at the tree, like a real Photo Booth.

We booked the Georgetown excursion (2 days) with River Gambia Tours and nothing has been said too much in the other reviews. Everything is well arranged and you feel completely safe with the wonderful guide Aladin. The drive there is long, but he tells you all about the country along the way and you make regular stops. The trip across the river is truly breathtaking, so beautiful. The overnight stay is primitive but also a great experience, especially breakfast the next morning with the monkeys around you, great!

In addition to this excursion, we also went with him on foot to the Crocodile Farm in Bakau and that was so much fun, after all, you don’t touch a crocodile every day :).

Aladin is entertaining, cheerful, neat and keeps his appointments. We highly recommend River Gambia Tours! Good luck Aladin and Tine!
